Circular From BBAXN (PLEASE TAKE NOTE)

Please note during the game

Match Date: 2-October-2007 | Match Time: 19:15:00 | Match Venue: ACS Court 3 Wombats vs Mars

Post game, one of the Wombats played hurled abusive language towards the on court officials.

BBAXN has subsequently suspended the player for 2 midweek league games.

Please be reminded:-

As sport players, we are all guilty of verbally challenging the decisions of Referees. However, feeling aggrieved regarding Refereeing decisions should be no justification for physically threatening Referees and / or continuously confronting them, furthermore for certain players to indicate referees are racist or biased can not be tolerated.. Such incidents will be dealt with strictly by the BBAXN Disciplinary Committee to ensure the safety of all Referees.

Referees can make mistakes during the game (or miss intentional fouls between two players) and certain calls can of course make a big impact on the game (and can cause tempers to rise), hopefully over the season the good calls and the not so good calls will even themselves out, but all teams must be aware the BAS referees are the appointed officials of the league and must be respected on the court regardless of good or bad calls.

BBAXN has requested to the BAS referees to always call serious fouls regardless if no disadvantage is gained and to act on the side of caution rather than let the game flow. This request has been passed down to the officials.

In basketball fouls will always be committed; this is part and parcel of the game. Some fouls are more dangerous than others, however regardless of the nature of the foul players must get up and walk away from the incident and allowing the referees to control the game. Contesting with the opponent every foul will of course lead to high tempers raising. In this instance BBAXN strongly encourages team managers to substitute the players concerned to allow them to “cool down” for 5 mins or so, allowing the players to continue in the court again increases the possibility of an incident happening.

BBAXN naturally does not encourage Trash Talking by any team in the league especially if insults are thrown as again this can ignite tempers to be raised… and we encourage all team managers to remove such players from the game for a short period of time to cool down. Every team manager must play their part to ensure the safety of all players in the game taking pro-active action to diffuse potential incidents.

Finally players (and supporters in some instances) storming the courts when an incident happens should never happen. Team managers must remind their players that entering the court without the referees permission is not permitted and must be actively enforced. Generally a shove and a punch will diffuse if left to the referees and the other players on the court rising above the situation at hand. Should a team wish to protest regarding certain incidents or referee decisions the correct course of action is of course for the Team Captain / Mgr to calmly approach the referee table to ask for an explanation if still unsatisfied the team can write a formal citation to BBAXN who will follow up with the BAS Chief Referee.
